South Western Railway Update

I have now met with senior managers from South Western Railway to express my views about the proposed closure of ticket offices in Bracknell

Whilst I recognise that commuters working patterns have changed post-COVID and that train revenue is lower, train operators must preserve travellers' access to face-to-face advice about journeys and fares.

My expectation is that more station staff will be able to provide advice about fares and assist with ticket bookings including bookings via the ticket vending machines (TVR).

The extension of the consultation period until the 1st of September 2023 is welcome, so please add your voice to the consultations from South Western Railway (Bracknell and Martins Heron) and Great Western Rail (Crowthorne).

This development is a brownfield site that is also providing much-needed affordable homes. A recent proposal to build affordable homes in an area next to the Evergreens, now rejected by the planning inspector, by felling acres of woodland with significant wildlife habitat on green gap land and not providing sufficient parking is not the solution. We do need more affordable homes, and the adoption of the proposed local plan for Bracknell Forest will increase the required number of affordable homes from 25% to 35% of more significant developments.

The technical skills required today for construction provide fantastic career opportunities, and career advisors do ensure that apprenticeships and trainee opportunities are detailed to students in their career talks.
